Operation Dixville (Brunswick Mission):
On June 21st-25th, about thirty of our middle and high school youth along with plenty of chaperones from our parish worked with other church groups, the city and other ministries to help restore the Norwich corridor in Brunswick. The Southern Cross’ new editor, Michael Johnson came out to our site one day and shadowed us. If you would like to see further pictures, go to www.southerncross.diosav.org to view or subscribe to the paper.
A huge thank you to all the parishioners (the list is way too long) who shopped, prepared food, donated tools, donated money or chaperoned this mission. Without each and every one of you, it would have been impossible to help our neighbors!
One story in which our youth offered their help was a neighbor who lives next door to Elizabeth Broughton, (we painted her home). This elderly gentleman being so encouraged by the clean up and painting that was being done at her house, felt led to start cleaning up his own yard. A couple of our youth group saw him working by himself in his yard and went over and asked if they could help him. This led to more youth going over. He was so grateful for the help! As we pulled away waving, our youth discussed how we could continue to help him. I thought to myself, “I think we just adopted a home”! We have a great group of youth in our parish! God is working!
