Dr. Bill Horn, from our Parish, was recently awarded the Diocesan Gartland award. This award seeks to recognize people who serve others over and above the normal. Bill epitomizes what this award signifies.
After years of working with law enforcement, Dr. Bill Horn retired five years ago from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and directed his considerable energies into service within St. William Church.
Bill’s first initiative within the Church was the creation of the Caring Ministry. That ministry covers almost every need imaginable from carrying people to the doctor’s office, to shopping for them, and taking them daily Eucharist. His team also visits the hospital and nursing homes.
When Katrina & Rita devastated the Gulf Coast states, it was Bill who arranges for relief teams to drive down to those areas and join the restoration effort. So far, Bill has organized eleven trips involving forty parishioners. While in that area, he coordinates with other churches on future trips to ensure the most efficient use of volunteers.
The Caring Ministry has recently undergone a more descriptive name change to Outreach Ministry. That gives a home to many different efforts made by parish volunteers. They meet quarterly and as needed to meet needs that would otherwise go unmet.
