Library Committee 001
Parish Library

The Library Committee reports that the Library is doing a brisk business after weekend Masses.  Stop in and browse sometime - you will be amazed at how well it has been organized.  There is new software specifically designed for libraries that will enhance your experience.  Aidine and her committee have appended their recent committee meeting minutes below:

Librarian Meeting
16 November 2006
Minutes

65 people have checked out 224 books since we opened the library!

1.       Present: Mary Lynch, Bill Jerome, Cathy Gruber, Dean Overall, Aidine Kiernan

2.        We discussed the new Surpass CL software that was purchased for the library and decided that:
a.      we don’t need to enter all the members of our church in the patron database, but only the ones that borrow the books.
b.     we have changed our printed form to include the ISBN number so we can enter immediately the book that was borrowed and the patron information.
c.     Mary Lynch and Thea Jarvis (in abstentia) volunteered to help with entering information in the database. We decided to get together when possible.
d.     New Borrowing rules:
                                                              i.      Books will be borrowed for one month, and renewed once.
ii.      Videos will be borrowed for 7 days
iii.      Children books and videos for 7 days.

3.       Overdue books
a.      Some books have been out for quite a while, so we divided the list of overdue books, and each one was assigned 4-5 people to call and remind them about returning the books.

4.       Strategies on acquiring new books
a.      Mary Lynch took the task to ask CCW what the process is in applying for a “book budget”.

5.       Library maintenance
a.      Library books are not replaced in their proper location. So I asked all the librarians to please look over the shelves and see if any are misplaced during their time in the library.

6.       Scheduling times and “key process”
a.      The “key to the library process” works as long as people remember to go to the office and ask Jan for the key. Bill suggested that if one forgets to ask Larry or George to open the library after the 8:00 mass.
b.     Dean Overall suggested that we follow the same process for scheduling as other ministries do, by having the members of the library tell me what days they won’t be available in the next two months, and then for me to schedule everyone, and send the list through the mail or e-mail.

7.       Other items?
a.      While not at the meeting, Bridget Matthews later in the library suggested that we ask other ministries (who are already involved church members who might be more likely to come to the library) to remind their members about the library and to urge them to come and check it out.

Thank you for your attendance, for your comments, and for your help!
