Mardi Gras, 2009

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday to some) bloomed at St. William Parish on Saturday night, Feb. 21.  The Parish Hall, with decorations in the creative hands of Stacey Bristol,Mardi Gras 2009 025 was festooned with banners, balloons, kazoos, oversized masks, and multitudes of colored beads.

As he has done in many years past, Chef Tom Delany provided an authentic New Orleans meal with plenty of food available. Savannah Steve, a favorite DJ, who has supplied the music for a variety of occasions for parishioners, was at his best.  Mardi Gras, 2009 056He had the dance floor full of “Electric Slider/s”, Everly Brothers fans who sang along with the music, and many a shag or swing dancer. He has an uncanny ability to read the crowd and plays to their wants.

The Queen and King were crowned and given several gift certificates to local restaurants, as well as bottles of Mardi Gras, 2009 054wine. The “Royal Couple” were chosen by those attending the Dinner/Dance.

The final moments of the Mardi Gras were given to drawing the winning tickets for the three raffle baskets: the St. Patrick’s basket, the Margaritaville Basket, and the Spirits basket. However, the big drawing was for the Golf Cart that was offered by the Council of Catholic Women as a major fundraiser for the charities they donate to all year long. Mardi Gras, 2009 059What a wonderful surprise for everyone when Savannah Steve drew the name of Ann Mallon, a past president of CCW and an active member!

It would be too difficult to give thanks to all the people who made this Mardi Gras such a wonderful event.  Your Council of Catholic Women is especially grateful for the support of the parish and friends because the funds raised by selling tickets to the raffle baskets go directly to supporting the National Charities recommended by Catholic Relief Services.
