St. Vincent dePaul
The society here in Brunswick serves counties from Camden to McIntosh, the next nearest office being Atlanta. It was good to learn that one hundred percent of the collections that are made through our parish go directly to assistance for needy families.
The needs are mostly for assistance with payment of electricity/gas and water bills, as well as medical prescriptions. Some assistance is giving for rent and even some given for gas or bus fares. This last one is due to a need to get to the VA hospital in Athens for medical treatment.
People seeking assistance may be helped once every six months (occasionally more often depending on the circumstance) so that the society does not become a ‘regular source of income’.
Maureen did say that collections from our parish have increased significantly since the introduction of a special envelope for their collection and she expressed the society’s gratitude to Msgr. John for allowing this change.
